The establishment of DASAR to oversee the development of projects ensures its smooth running, and that the government’s ambition to achieve success in all projects executed is achieved.
This establishment of DASAR is also in line with another government ambition which is to ensure a developed Melaka come 2010.
“A determined and continuous effort is required by all parties periodically to ensure that state developmental projects all are successfully executed’’.
Using 52 indicators to measure the quality of life of its people, the government is able to determine the development of the state of which has currently achieved 74.5 percent of its target.
Melaka has allocated a sum of RM3.68 billion from the RM3.97 billion received in conjunction with RMK9 for the execution of developmental projects in the state.
The state government, apart for developmental projects, is also serious in the development of Information Technology and Communication (ICT) to ensure that the people of Melaka remain knowledgeable at all times.
The ICT sector in Melaka has thus far developed at a rapid speed. This is a direct result of the continuous support and effort of the state government to develop and expand the field of ICT in the state.
The establishment of the e-economy Department at the Chief Minister’s Office has proven the commitment of the state government in further expanding the field of ICT, especially in ensuring that the people of Melaka are IT literate.
Consequently, the launch of the MSC Malaysia Cybercentre @ MITC Melaka by YAB Prime Minister displays the sincerity and initiative of the State government in ensuring an IT literate community.
The state government’s sincerity in this field can be seen from the success of the e-Melaka programme which aim intends to provide exposure and computer training to housewives and pensioners in the state.
The reasoning for this is that as a high technology field which is based on knowledge, progress in the field of ICT can drive Melaka towards achieving the status of a developed state, and concurrently, improve the standard of living of the people of Melaka as a whole.
In this regards, eight international standard ICT companies have provided their co-operation to the state government to develop this filed. The eight companies have all established offices in Cybercentre to provide ICT related services, to users, in particular the people of Melaka.
Apart from the initiatives mentioned above to develop further the field of ICT and to strengthen the administration of the state government, Melaka has taken an additional step in developing the Hang Tuah Jaya project as a world-class smart administration town.
The launch of this project which was officiated by the Prime Minister is another mile stone in the history and Historical Melaka.
The Hang Tuah Jaya development is modelled upon the development of the Central Government in Putrajaya.
With the provision of world class facilities, this development has been envisioned as a town which is ideal for living, working, education and interaction.
The state government has established the Hang Tuah Jaya Corporation (PHTJ) to administer and manage the area which size is 35,733.04 acres. This includes 39.87 percent or 14,247.76 acres which is located in a part of the Central Melaka district.
The second largest area of the Hang Tuah Jaya development with a size of 12,859.79 acres, or 35.99 percent is located in the Jasin district. The remaining area in this development is located in the Alor Gajah district.
An estimated 114,732 residents were located in the PHTJ area in 2006. The breakdown of this estimate is as follows: 98,742 residents in the Central Melaka district, 7,584 residents in the Alor Gajah district and 8,406 in the Jasin district.
Agricultural is currently the dominant area of land use in the Hang Tuah Jaya area accounting for 53.76% (19,208.51 acres). Other main land uses in this area include housing (23.18%), institution (6.05%), industrial (3.68%) and business (2.22%).
According to the concept plan of PHTJ, the whole area will be divided into several zones, of which they will comprise an administration zone (centred at the area of Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh), tourism, I-Village, tele-suburb, airport town, medical town, business town, enterprise zone, education and, research and development hub (R&D), bio-valley, memorial park as well as highways and roads.
The focus of the state government in the area of agriculture proves that the fate of the farming community has not been ignored. Several efforts have already been taken to improve their standard of living and to increase their income.
The Melaka Delight Mango Farm in Kampung Gelam, which was also visited by the Prime Minister, shows the commitment of the government in providing encouragement and support to the faming community working on abandoned land.
The state government is sensitive to the needs of the farming community and encourages them to use every available space possible to initiate projects which will provide excellent returns.
There are presently 102 entrepreneurs under the Petaniaga Sdn Bhd umberella, all holding shares according to their investment capabilities.
Melaka, which has now been continuously strengthening the recognition of the state in the international area in line with efforts to promote Melaka to world, will continue its responsibilities to ensure that the state continues to prosper and grow.
Thank You.
