Kesidang, or its botanical name "Vallabris Glabra", is the official flower of the State of Melaka. It belongs to the Apocynaceae family. The fragrance of the kesidang flower is particularly noticeable in the morning and is often compared to the scent of pandan leaves.
Its small and beautiful form is very appealing and makes it suitable as a decorative flower, especially with its lasting fragrance that fills every space. Kesidang flowers are ideal for decorating arches and pergolas, and are commonly found at temples, churches, weddings, and other festive celebrations.
In short, the kesidang flower is often used as a decorative element at ceremonial events and prestigious venues. In traditional Melakan society, it is used as a floral hair ornament for women, bridal decoration, and as part of Malay wedding accessories such as the betel leaf set (tepak sirih) and potpourri (bunga rampai). The kesidang flower is the ideal symbol for Melaka. Though small in size, its beauty and fragrance captivate all—just like the State of Melaka, which is rich in ethnic diversity, history, and the progress it has achieved today.
