Vision
  • To position Melaka as a premier tourist destination in Asia in line with the themes: “Visiting Historical Melaka Means Visiting Malaysia” and “Melaka, a UNESCO World Heritage City.”

 

Mission
  • To develop the tourism industry as a major contributor to economic growth (GDP) and job creation in the State of Melaka.
  • To attract 20 million tourists to visit Melaka by 2020.
  • To increase the average length of stay in Melaka to three nights by 2020.

  • Make Melaka a MICE destination.
  • Position tourism as a key contributor to GDP and job opportunities.
  • Attract 50% of foreign tourists visiting Malaysia to Melaka.
  • Achieve an average length of stay of three (3) nights.
  • Make Melaka a MUST-visit destination.

 

Core Functions
  • Functions of MICE Unit
    • Coordinate and attend meetings related to its scope of work.
    • Coordinate invitations for MICE activities organised by the Tourism Promotion Division.
    • Coordinate and monitor MICE implementation by relevant organisations.
    • Collect, compile, and analyse monthly MICE statistics.
    • Promote Melaka as a MICE destination.
    • Perform other duties as instructed by Management from time to time.

 

  • Functions of Events Unit
    • Coordinate, prepare, and implement tourism promotions and domestic tourism development programmes.
    • Collaborate with tourism organisations such as associations outside Melaka to promote domestic tourism events.
    • Prepare the Melaka Tourism Calendar for monthly events.
    • Assist in coordinating and monitoring event implementation.
    • Prepare reports and MMKN papers for events organised by the Chief Minister’s Department and State Government.
    • Perform other duties as directed from time to time.

 

  • Functions of Communication Unit
    • Organise and assist in running inauguration programmes, seminars, celebrations, and official visits from within and outside the country.
    • Handle invitations and guest reception at official functions.
    • Serve as Secretary to the Post-Exco Committee on Tourism, Culture, and Heritage Development when meetings are held weekly.
    • Oversee receipt and distribution of promotional materials and tourism brochures to attractions and hotels in Melaka, ensuring sufficient supply.
    • Coordinate and monitor the operations of the Tourist Information Centre.
    • Assist the General Manager and Deputy General Manager in their absence as directed.
    • Carry out other duties as instructed from time to time.

 

  • Functions of R&D Unit
    • Study tourist demand by market, including identifying niche markets.
    • Research tourism products, including identifying niche products according to market demand.
    • Collect, compile, and analyse monthly tourist statistics for presentation to the State Executive Council (MMKN).
    • Conduct SWOT analyses on the tourism industry (domestic/global) periodically and present relevant recommendations.
    • Maintain inventory and conduct audits on all tourism products and submit recommendations.
    • Act as secretariat to 12 Lead Agencies.
    • Carry out other duties as directed from time to time.

 

  • Functions of Promotion Unit
    • Responsible for planning and managing promotional activities at domestic and international levels.
    • Coordinate Melaka’s representation in tourism promotion missions organised by the Ministry of Tourism and Tourism Malaysia, locally and internationally.
    • Collaborate with government agencies or tourism operators to coordinate promotional activities organised at domestic and international levels.
    • Secure services of cultural troupes, chefs, and trishaw riders to work with hotels or other organisations in promoting tourism products.
    • Perform other duties as instructed by the State Government, represented by the Chief Minister, State Secretary, Chairman of Tourism, Culture and Heritage Committee, and General Manager of BPP.
    • Carry out any other duties as instructed.

 

  • Functions of Administration Unit
    • Record and monitor incoming and outgoing correspondence, including internal and external circulation.
    • Oversee management of individual, confidential, and open files.
    • Manage staff recruitment via the Human Resource Management Division of the Chief Minister’s Department.
    • Prepare Kew.8 forms for salary arrangements and annual increments for officers and new staff.
    • Record and update the Government Service Book.
    • Coordinate the Annual Performance Assessment Report (SKT) and Asset Declaration Forms.
    • Manage the sending of officers and staff to attend courses relevant to their duties.
    • Supervise office cleanliness, maintenance, security, and facilities.
    • Manage procurement and record issuance of stationery and other supplies.
    • Assist with decorating tourism exhibition booths participated by the State Government.

 

  • Functions of Arts Brigade Unit
    • Manage activities of the Melaka Arts Brigade, including marketing performances and related tasks.
    • Plan and strategise marketing activities and stay attuned to current performance trends.
    • Receive and respond to all correspondence related to Arts Brigade sales.
    • Represent in meetings and appointments involving group activities or as directed by the General Manager.
    • Prepare group expenditure and income estimates and report to the General Manager.
    • Prepare and maintain inventory records of all equipment.

 

Client Charter
 

(i)

Ensure the organisation of Tourism Festivals (Roadshows) and participation in exhibitions at domestic and international levels at least fifteen (15) times a year.

(ii)

Ensure the organisation of at least one hundred (100) tourism events in Melaka annually.

(iii)

Ensure at least twelve (12) Familiarisation Tour programmes involving local and foreign media, travel agents, and official visits from within and outside the country annually.

(iv)

Ensure at least forty-eight (48) cultural performances are held locally and internationally each year.
