Kompleks Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, Melaka
In 1983, the State Executive Council Meeting (MMKN) agreed to change the name of the State Secretary’s Office (SUK) Melaka to the Chief Minister’s Department of Melaka (MCMD). According to records, following independence in 1957, the administrative centre of the State Secretary’s Office was located at Wisma Negeri, Jalan Hang Tuah, under the leadership of the first Chief Minister of Melaka, the late Datuk Kurnia Jasa Othman Bin Talib.
MCMD is the most important department under the State Executive authority, vested with full power over all government policies and directives. MCMD also acts as a coordinator and serves as a reference point for all State and Federal Government Departments, State and Federal Statutory Bodies, as well as Local Authorities. The Chief Minister’s Department of Melaka, now based at Kompleks Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh, commenced its operations on 4 May 1999, corresponding to 29 Muharram 1421H. At present, MCMD is led by 20 divisions and units under two main sectors, namely the Management Sector and the Development Sector. The primary function of MCMD is to plan, formulate, draft, and implement State Government Policies and Federal Government Policies related to state administrative affairs in accordance with the Ninth Schedule, State List, Federal Constitution, as well as provisions stipulated in the State Constitution.
