- Pantun holds a special place in the traditional Malay heritage arts in Malaysia. It is a form of oral poetry that has long been an inseparable part of Malay culture. Pantun is not only viewed as a form of entertainment but also as a refined and poetic means of conveying messages, advice, or expressions of emotion.
- Within the context of traditional Malay heritage arts in Malaysia, pantun is often used in various traditional events such as weddings, family gatherings, feasts, and cultural festivals. It serves as a medium to express joy, get acquainted, greet one another, or offer congratulations.
- In an effort to preserve and promote the heritage of Pantun, the Melaka State Government under the leadership of YAB Datuk Seri Utama Ab Rauf Bin Yusoh, Chief Minister of Melaka has established a Pantun Database for the State of Melaka named "Gerbang Pantun Melaka". This initiative aims to serve as a comprehensive platform for the collection, preservation, and dissemination of traditional pantun that are unique and distinctive to Melaka.
- Gerbang Pantun Melaka is expected to contribute significantly to the preservation and celebration of pantun as an essential element of Melaka’s cultural identity.
